At FU, there are groups working in geometric analysis ( Ecker, Huisken) and in nonlinear dynamics ( Fiedler ) with a joint research seminar. The workshop topics include: random simplicial complexes, topological invariants in Gaussian random fields, and topological aspects of phase transitions, and geometry and topology of hard disks. It merely constructs these forms using local coordinates, which seems to be quite tricky to get to its bottom.

Analytic geometry applies methods of algebra to geometric questions, typically by relating geometric curves and algebraic equations. For example the riemannian structure gives you some closed differential forms that can be integrated and give some topological invariants. Also, the Wikipedia article on Gauss's works in the year 1827 at could be looked at. ^ It is easy to show that the area preserving condition (or the twisting condition) cannot be removed. So far, the undefined math terms which I listed above were not central to the text; and one would not miss much by just reading past them.

The rest of the book is less useful: physics, contact with lines, orthotomics, envelopes, vertices, etc. Gauge theory usually investigates the space of principal connections on a principal fiber bundle (P,p,M,G) and its orbit space under the action of the gauge group (called the moduli space), which is the group of all principal bundle automorphisms...
